Denmark is taking another step towards a greener transport and energy sector. Through the Investment Support Scheme 2025, several CO2-intensive companies will receive financial assistance to reduce their emissions – including Molslinjen, which will receive 180 million DKK to deploy three new electric ferries on the Kattegat connection. This is stated by the Ministry of Climate, Energy and Utilities in a press release.

The fully electric ferries are expected to be launched after 2027 and will replace parts of Molslinjen's current fossil fleet. According to calculations, the project will be able to remove around 132,000 tons of CO2 per year from Denmark's total emissions.

- We are now paving the way for electric ferries to become a common sight in our inland waters in the future, just as we have long since become accustomed to electric cars driving on the roads. With the new ferries, we will have one of the world's longest and fastest fully electrified ferry routes. Once again, Denmark is leading the way and showing how we transform new technology into a green transition, says Minister of Climate, Energy and Utilities Lars Aagaard.

Other companies will also receive a share of the funding. Daka will receive 58 million DKK to replace natural gas with biomass, while AU Windmills will receive 13 million DKK to electrify its biogas production, which is currently powered by oil and natural gas.

- The government is once again pushing for the green transition throughout the business sector, and is showing the world that green initiatives are driving growth and development, says Minister of Business and Industry Morten Bødskov (S).

The investment support scheme has a total budget of around 1 billion DKK until 2029 and is administered by the Danish Energy Agency. The purpose is to help companies that are hardest hit by the CO2 tax, which was phased in from January 2025, to implement concrete projects that lower their emissions.
