Several district heating companies on Funen refuse to provide information about what they pay their directors in salary. This applies to Assens Fjernvarme, Svendborg Fjernvarme and Middelfart Fjernvarme, among others, who, according to Fyens Stiftstidende refuse to answer. But it is against the law to refuse to provide this information, three experts in the field of freedom of information and energy law assess to the media.
According to professor of media law Sten Schaumburg-Müller from the University of Southern Denmark, directors cannot refuse access to documents on the grounds of private matters: "In my opinion, information about the salary of a director of a heating company that supplies around 10,000 households (such as Middelfart Fjernvarme, ed.) is not a grey area. The information is subject to access to documents unless the manager is exceptionally at particular risk of harassing citizens," he says.
The media has asked Dansk Fjernvarme a number of questions about the matter. The industry association has responded by email and states that director salaries can be both private and competitively sensitive information. "Publicity about salary conditions can have several consequences. Among other things, salary information can be a competitive parameter that can affect the district heating company's ability to attract and retain qualified employees," it says, among other things. in the written answer.
