SLAGELSE: Director of the municipally owned utility company SK Forsyning in Slagelse, Jan Østerskov, is stepping down as director. He has resigned himself, but will still receive a severance package of 12 months' salary, equivalent to just under DKK 1.4 million. This is reported by TV2 Øst. It is common for an employee to receive compensation if they are fired, whereas it is rare for compensation to be paid if they choose to resign. Nevertheless, it was part of Jan Østerskov's contract.
City council politician Thomas Vesth (LA) calls it completely out of the question, and Per Nikolaj Bukh, a professor of financial management at Aalborg University, calls it an "unusual employment condition" that should only be used "when there are special circumstances that justify it." But chairman of the board of SK Forsyning, Ole Drost, does not waver when he speaks to TV2 Øst:
- Our management here at SK Forsyning - both Jan Østerskov and Henrik Birch - are worth every penny. Absolutely, he says.
