MYKOLAJIV: Back in 2023, Vestas completed the construction of wind turbines with a total capacity of 114 megawatts near Mykolajiv in Ukraine.
Now the Danish wind turbine manufacturer will once again start erecting towers and installing turbines in Ukraine
Vestas is part of an agreement to build 64 wind turbines near the first Tyligulska wind farm.
The new turbines will increase the capacity from the previous 114 megawatts to almost 500 megawatts. This means that in the future it will be possible to supply an additional 700,000 households with electricity.
According to Vestas, this will be the largest wind energy project in the country.
The agreement has been concluded with the Ukrainian energy company DTEK and has been made possible through a state guarantee of 2.85 million kroner from the Danish Ukraine Fund, which is administered by the Danish Export and Investment Fund.
According to the Ministry of Business and Industry, this is a project with a total value of four billion kroner.
In addition to the order for the 64 wind turbines, the agreement also includes a service contract that runs for 20 years.
The construction of the 64 wind turbines will begin in the first quarter of this year, and they are expected to be operational by the end of 2026.
Ukraine badly needs the wind turbines as a result of frequent Russian attacks on the country's energy infrastructure.
- Today's agreement is a major steps towards a new energy future in Ukraine.
- From having a system that is daily threatened by attacks, we are building a resilient and secure energy infrastructure that also helps Ukraine deliver on its climate commitments, says Maxim Timtjenko, CEO of DTEK.
According to the CEO of the Export and Investment Fund, Peder Lundquist, the project is the 15th in a row that the fund is helping to finance in Ukraine.
In addition to energy, the projects also span sectors such as water supply and agriculture.
