Ming Yang Smart Energy Group has announced plans to build the world's largest floating offshore wind turbine. The company is working to develop a 50MW wind turbine with two heads, Zhang Qiying, president of Ming Yang's international business, said Tuesday in Beijing. This is reported by Bloomberg.

Zhang Qiying did not reveal when the new turbine is expected to be completed. However, China stands out in the global offshore wind industry, which is being pressured in several places by increased costs for materials and financing. In China, the country's largest turbine manufacturers are pressuring the government to accelerate new installations, which could more than double production by the end of the decade.

China has already surpassed previous renewable energy targets, and record-breaking expansions of wind and solar power mean the country is six years ahead of its 2030 plan.

With an output of 50 MW, the upcoming turbine will be almost twice the size of the largest offshore wind turbine currently in existence. It was developed by China's Dongfang and has a capacity of 26 MW. In comparison, Vestas's largest offshore wind turbine to date has an output of 15 MW.
