The Port of Esbjerg is now opening Port Esbjerg Innovation Hub – a new initiative that will strengthen cooperation between the port's stakeholders and promote the development of green, practical solutions. The port announced this in a statement.
The hub will be based in the historic Fish Warehouse and will function as a laboratory for new ideas. Here, companies, research environments and educational institutions will work together to develop and test solutions across disciplines and sectors – from shore power and energy-efficient operation to smarter resource utilization.
- With our new innovation hub, we are creating the necessary framework for us, together with the port's companies, to test and develop new solutions that can help solve the challenges we face. We have a strong history of innovation in Esbjerg, to which we are adding a new chapter with the hub, says CEO of the Port of Esbjerg, Dennis Jul Pedersen.
The model behind the initiative is called The Esbjerg Way and is based on an innovation process where ideas from companies are translated into concrete solutions through collaboration with knowledge environments and practical tests in so-called Living Labs. The results are used to match the needs of the business community with new competencies.
- The challenges that the companies at the port face are too complex to be solved alone. Green transition, new technologies and solutions, qualified labor are all major challenges that require cooperation and a willingness to think new things. Good new ideas can both be used at the individual port and exchanged between them internationally, says Dennis Jul Pedersen, CEO of the Port of Esbjerg.
With the establishment of the hub, the Port of Esbjerg joins the international network Port Innovators Network, where ports from several parts of the world share knowledge, solutions and experiences. The network currently includes seven members from, among others, Europe, North America and South America.
- Cooperation with ports around the world is absolutely central. With membership of the Port Innovators Network, the Port of Esbjerg becomes part of an international community of ports that constantly want to improve through new solutions. We see great value in this, says Dennis Jul Pedersen.
