Danish fishermen will receive a total of DKK 4.15 million in compensation as a result of an agreement between the Danish Fisheries Producers' Association (DFPO) and Vattenfall regarding the offshore wind farms Vesterhav Nord and Vesterhav Syd. The agreement establishes compensation for the limitations that the construction, operation and later dismantling of the parks entail. This is stated by Vattenfall in a press release.
- The agreement with DFPO is an expression of constructive cooperation, where we take responsibility for the impacts that construction and operation entail, Allan Overbeck, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the wind farms Vesterhav Syd and Nord and responsible for the operation of Vattenfall's offshore wind farms in the Nordic region
While the parks are in operation, fishing with bottom-trailing gear and anchoring within a 200-meter protection zone around the turbines and connection cables is prohibited. During dismantling, general temporary prohibitions on fishing and sailing in the park areas apply. The compensation covers the construction phase, 25 years of operation from the time of grid connection and 1.5 years of dismantling. DFPO receives the compensation on behalf of the affected fishermen.
- With this agreement, we ensure predictability for fishing around the North and South West. It has been difficult negotiations, but I am satisfied that Vattenfall is meeting the requirements for the installers to compensate the fishermen for the inconvenience they experience from the large installations at sea. It is an important agreement in principle, says Svend-Erik Andersen, chairman of DFPO.
The North and South West West were built in 2023–2024 and are expected to supply electricity for at least 25 years. The agreement also establishes the framework for how fishermen are informed about applicable restrictions in the areas.
