Donald Trump has once again made his opposition to wind energy clear. At a televised meeting at the White House earlier this month with top executives from the US oil industry, the US president made it clear that his government has not approved any new wind turbine projects since taking office, and that this line must be maintained. "My goal is that not a single wind turbine is built," was one of the words of the president, who indicated that he believed that China had succeeded in selling turbines to gullible Europeans and decision-makers from the Biden administration. The agreement with the latter may pave the way for turbines in the US, but not with Trump's good will, writes Politiken.
- They are the worst form of energy, the most expensive form of energy. And in eight years they will have rotted away anyway... So we are not approving, and I have told my people that we will not approve, wind turbines. Maybe we will be forced to do so because some stupid person in the Biden administration agreed to do something years ago, Trump said.
The meeting took place after the US earlier this month took new measures against Venezuela, and Trump used the opportunity to highlight oil and gas as key energy sources. The announcement comes as several major energy companies are involved in lawsuits against the US government following temporary construction halts on offshore wind projects on the US East Coast. Among others, Ørsted and Equinor have received the green light from a US court to resume work on ongoing projects. Despite the court rulings, the Trump administration has maintained its criticism of wind energy.
