Now jobs and money are being put at stake as to what it will cost Danish society that the Danish Energy Agency has put the processing of offshore wind turbine projects and other projects under the open-door scheme on hold, writes the business media DIBusiness.dk.

The calculations have been made by the auditing giant KPMG and show that the existing almost 16.4 GW applications under the open-door scheme have the potential to create jobs equivalent to 62,320 full-time equivalents during their construction and 9,840 full-time equivalents while they are in operation. However, the many jobs risk never coming to fruition if the processing of the open-door projects is not resumed quickly.

- These are huge numbers. And we are talking about potential jobs spread throughout Denmark. This clearly shows why it is so important that a solution is found quickly so that the many good projects under the open-door scheme can move forward, says Lars Sandahl Sørensen, CEO of DI.

He adds:

- If we do not quickly start processing the open-door projects again, Danish society risks missing out on huge gains and a unique chance to create green energy for millions of households in Denmark and Europe. If we want a real green transition in Denmark and solve the climate crisis, solutions must be found as soon as possible.

Billions in tax revenue

At the same time, calculations from KPMG show that the potential tax revenue from corporate taxes and income taxes, respectively, amounts to 180.4 billion. DKK in the period from 2023 – 2059, corresponding to additional tax revenue of approximately DKK 5 billion annually.

- The calculations show that the open-door scheme has the potential to become a very good business for Danish society. Therefore, it is also important to get the case processing going again so that the projects can get started. A successful implementation will benefit all of Denmark and the green transition, says Lars Sandahl Sørensen.
