The Danish Energy Agency has granted an electricity production permit to Thor Wind Farm I/S, which is behind the construction of the Thor Offshore Wind Farm off Thorsminde. The permit is valid for 30 years and means that the offshore wind turbines can now be gradually connected to the electricity grid. The agency announced this in a statement.

The Thor Offshore Wind Farm, which will be Denmark's largest when completed, will consist of 72 offshore wind turbines with a total capacity of 1 GW. When fully operational, the park is expected to be able to supply green electricity to around one million households and make a significant contribution to the green transition and the EU's energy independence.

- The Thor Offshore Wind Farm is a significant contribution to the green transition. It will be Denmark's largest offshore wind farm and is a significant contribution both to Europe's energy independence and to ensuring sufficient green electricity for a society that is increasingly electrified, says Stig Uffe Pedersen, acting director of the Danish Energy Agency.

RWE is the majority owner of Thor Wind Farm (51 percent), while the Norwegian Investment Bank owns the remaining 49 percent. RWE is responsible for the construction and operation of the offshore wind farm. The farm is expected to be fully operational by the end of 2027 at the latest, and construction is going according to plan, RWE said in a statement, in which the company expressed its delight at the permit.

- We are very pleased to have received the electricity production permit for Thor Offshore Wind Farm from the Danish Energy Agency. This is an important milestone in our work to realize Denmark's largest offshore wind farm project. When all turbines are in operation, Thor will play a crucial role in meeting Denmark's climate goals and in strengthening Denmark's and the EU's energy security, says Pernille Haaning, CEO of RWE Renewables Denmark.

When Thor Offshore Wind Farm is completed, Denmark's total offshore wind capacity will increase from 2.7 GW to almost 3.7 GW.
