VARDE: The plans for a data center and associated greenhouses at Krageris north of Ølgod in Varde Municipality have now moved one step closer to realization. On Monday, Minister for Urban and Rural Areas Morten Dahlin (V) granted permission for planning to be carried out for the project in the area.
The permission means that Varde Municipality can now proceed with preparing the necessary planning proposals. The project is therefore awaiting political consideration before it can move into the next phase.
Mayor Sarah Andersen (V) is pleased with the minister's decision:
- In Varde Municipality, we have a desire to create growth and development in local communities - including through new industries such as data centers. This is something we have been working strategically on in recent years, and it is therefore very positive that we have now received permission to plan locally for a data center and greenhouses in Krageris. I look forward to the upcoming process in close dialogue with neighbors and local communities, she says in a press release.
The municipality's administration will now review the approval, after which the further political process will be planned, with a view to deciding whether the project should be implemented.
Facts about the project
- The project is a sector coupling project. This means that the excess heat generated by the data center will be used to heat the greenhouses, so that vegetables can be grown year-round.
- The construction is expected to be completed in 2030.
- In connection with the project, Varde Municipality has hired an external community consultant to strengthen the dialogue with the local community. The consultant acts independently of the municipality and can guide neighbors in the dialogue with the municipality and the project developers. A dialogue group has also been set up, consisting of neighbors who have volunteered.
