Ørsted has sold a 50 percent stake in the Hornsea 3 offshore wind farm to the private equity fund Apollo Global Management.

The Danish company announced this in a stock exchange announcement on Tuesday.

The deal is worth approximately DKK 39 billion.

Ørsted announced in early November that it had entered into an agreement to sell the stake.

In that connection, it was called a milestone.

- We are pleased to welcome Apollo as a partner in Hornsea 3, as they have experience with infrastructure and can provide flexible capital on a large scale, said CFO Trond Westlie.

- The sale is an important milestone for Ørsted in our continued work to deliver on our partnership and divestment program, which is a cornerstone of our business plan.

Ørsted has made it its specialty to build large, new offshore wind farms.

Subsequently, the company is continuously selling off its ownership interests to raise the necessary capital to build new farms.

Hornsea 3 is currently being built off the British east coast and will supply more than three million households with electricity.

Ørsted has previously estimated that it will be the world's largest offshore wind farm with a capacity of almost three gigawatts.

The total investments in the project are still between 70 and 75 billion kroner, it was announced in November.

Initially, Ørsted will receive 20 billion kroner for the agreement with Apollo Global Management. The remaining amount will be paid when certain milestones are achieved.

Ørsted's announcement comes at a time when the company has experienced renewed headwinds in the US.

Shortly before Christmas, the US Department of the Interior announced that it was putting leases for five offshore wind farms on hold.

This applied to two of Ørsted's farms, where all activities have since been ordered to stop for 90 days.
