Ørsted appeals to US court after wind turbine pause order

Ørsted is complaining after the Revolution Wind project was ordered to be paused in December.

Ørsted has filed a supplementary complaint with the District Court in Washington D.C. after the US Department of the Interior put the Revolution Wind project on hold in December.

The Danish company writes this in a press release.

- Revolution Wind believes that the order to suspend construction work is contrary to applicable law.

The release states that it continues to intend to find a "quick and durable solution" through constructive dialogue with, among others, the ministry.

The US Department of the Interior announced on December 22 that leases for five major offshore wind farms were immediately put on hold.

According to Interior Secretary Doug Burgum, the reason was national security.

According to the news agency Reuters, the ministry said that the Pentagon had expressed concern that the movement of the wind turbine blades and reflective towers were causing radar interference.

Ørsted writes in the press release that the project received all necessary permits in 2023 after a comprehensive review.

- One of the requirements of the approval process was that the Project should consult with the US Department of War's Military Aviation and Military Installation Protection Coordination Unit to address potential consequences for national security and national defense capability in connection with the construction and operation of the Project, it says.

Revolution Wind is an offshore wind farm that Ørsted is constructing off the East Coast of the United States.

The farm is a joint project between Ørsted and Skyborn Renewables, which is a co-owner.
