2022 was a year in which the level of activity at the Port of Odense was higher than expected – and significantly better than 2021. The port announced this in a press release.
The accounts show that the port's net revenue and other operating income amounted to 237 million DKK compared to 186 million DKK in 2021. This corresponds to an increase of 28 percent, which is the largest revenue in the port's 220-year history. The operating result amounted to 65 million DKK, which is an increase of 31 million DKK compared to last year.
On the bottom line, things also look good for the port. Here, the result of financial items has been positively affected by a realized capital gain due to loan restructuring in the second quarter of 2022 of DKK 48 million. The result for the year shows a profit of 104 million DKK. DKK after tax, which is higher than expected, and Odense Havn A/S thus has a profit margin of 27 percent in 2022 against 19 percent in 2021, the port said in a press release.
- The board of directors is very satisfied with the financial statements. It is a strong result, and it shows that the strategy we have set for Odense Havn A/S is the right way forward. The excellent financial statements are not least due to a great effort from the port's employees on all parameters, says chairman of the board Lars Therkildsen.
Growth in the wind sector
Odense Havn A/S creates 7,080 jobs directly and indirectly. More than 1,280 of these jobs are directly within the wind sector, and in 2022, 580 new jobs were created in the wind turbine industry at the port. The Port of Odense is committed to continuing the development of wind activities at the port.
Among other things, there are plans to expand and strengthen the portfolio within offshore wind. This includes attracting both new producers and subcontractors. International plans for the expansion of offshore wind in the North Sea and the Baltic Sea mean that thousands of new, large offshore wind turbines will be produced and erected in the coming years. Odense Havn A/S is working purposefully to ensure that as many of these turbines are produced in the Port of Odense.
- We are working purposefully to ensure that the thousands of new turbines for the North Sea and the Baltic Sea are produced here at the Port of Odense. The development of more large turbines will put the port's capacity under pressure, and there will be a need to expand and create more space for production and transport if we are to fulfill the potential of the port's role as part of the green transition, says CEO of Odense Havn A/S, Carsten Aa.
