In the midst of Ørsted's escalating crisis, several shareholders are now criticizing the state's 50.1 percent ownership, as they believe the company would be stronger if it were run privately in the future. This is reported by Finans. "Nicolai Wammen is certainly a capable finance minister, but in my eyes he is not the one who should be managing Ørsted's treasury," says investment strategist at portfolio manager Artha Scope Lars Hytting. The wording is the same at AkademikerPension, where investment director Anders Schelde does not believe that "Ørsted has the right owner".
Finance Minister Nicolai Wammen (S) rejects the criticism and writes in a written response to the media that the state does not interfere in the company's investment decisions. Ørsted is currently carrying out a capital raise of 60 billion DKK to finance the lack of buyers for the offshore wind farm Sunrise Wind and build a buffer against unforeseen problems. The energy giant is forced to do this due to major challenges with offshore wind projects in the US under the US presidential administration.
Right now, Anders Schelde and Lars Hytting do not believe that the state should not sell Ørsted until the current crisis is resolved. In the longer term, they propose to privatize foreign activities, while Danish power plants remain state-owned. Ørsted has no comments on the investors' criticism.
