Ørsted downgrades by one billion on important day

Lower wind speeds and a delay in Taiwan are causing Ørsted to lower its forecast for 2025.

On the same day that an extraordinary general meeting at Ørsted is to decide on a huge capital increase, the energy company has some boring news for its shareholders.

Ørsted says in a stock exchange announcement that it is adjusting its expectations for the year's earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization (EBITDA) to between DKK 24 billion and DKK 27 billion. Previously, the expectation was that the figure would end up between DKK 25 billion and DKK 28 billion.

The adjustment is due, among other things, to lower wind speeds than expected and a delay in a project in Taiwan. Ørsted does not expect the two factors to affect the company's financial results in the slightly longer term.

Friday's general meeting has been called with the aim of carrying out a share increase that will bring Ørsted DKK 60 billion. The Danish state, which owns 50.1 percent of Ørsted, has already agreed to provide 30 billion kroner.

The money is to ensure that Ørsted can complete its American offshore wind projects, Revolution Wind and Sunrise Wind. The construction of the former has been put on hold by the American authorities, and the delays will cause Ørsted significant additional costs.

On Thursday, Ørsted announced that it has sued the American government to have the construction halt declared illegal.
