Green Power Denmark calls it urgent and necessary that Energinet will lower the tariffs and connection fees that both electricity customers and producers of green electricity pay to connect to the electricity grid. The trade organization states this in a statement.
Energinet has announced that the tariffs will be reduced by up to ten percent from 2026, and that there will be a cap on increases until 2030. This applies to both consumers and producers such as solar cell and wind turbine owners.
- The costs have become so high that the financial basis for installing wind turbines and solar cells has disappeared in many cases. That is why we have long pressed for Energinet's prices to be examined - and ultimately reduced. Now there is a prospect that the connection fee will fall by up to 10 percent, and that the balancing tariff will be reduced slightly. It is urgent and absolutely necessary, says Mette Rose Skaksen, who is deputy CEO. CEO of Green Power Denmark.
Since 2019, connection costs have increased significantly – according to the organization, by up to 69 percent in just one year. According to Green Power Denmark, the rising prices have made it difficult to maintain the business basis for new renewable energy projects.
Green Power Denmark also sees a positive view of the lowering of consumer tariffs. According to the organization, this will give companies a better incentive to switch from fossil fuels to electricity – a central piece of the green transition.
However, at the same time, the organization warns against letting the savings go to the detriment of necessary investments. According to Energinet, 98 out of 174 planned expansions of the electricity grid have been postponed to 2024, which extends the waiting time for connecting new plants and consumers to the grid.
- It cannot be emphasized enough that the green transition also requires Energinet to step up the pace and expand the transmission grid at a much higher speed than today. Installers of solar cells and wind turbines as well as large consumers of green electricity should not have to wait for years to be connected to the electricity grid, says Mette Rose Skaksen.
