A coastal offshore wind farm off Frederikshavn has come a significant step closer.

On Tuesday, the Danish Energy Agency assessed that the environmental impact report for the Frederikshavn Offshore Wind Farm meets the legal requirements for content, and "that it cannot be rejected on the basis of the available data that it is relevant to utilize the energy in the area", the Danish Energy Agency writes in a press release.

European Energy is behind the plans for the wind farm, which includes the installation of up to five offshore wind turbines with an installed capacity of between 21.6-72 MW within an area of approximately 5.5 km2. The individual turbines will have a maximum height of 265 m.

With the approval of the environmental impact report from the Danish Energy Agency, the report can now be sent for an eight-week public consultation, and a citizens' meeting will be held about the project. After the hearing, an application for an establishment permit can be made.

It is expected that the hearing for the project will be launched at the end of May this year. The citizens' meeting will be held on June 2, 2022 at 7:00 p.m. in Det Musiske Hus in Frederikshavn. Both European Energy and the Danish Energy Agency will be present.

The feasibility study area is located approximately 4.5 km east of Frederikshavn Harbour. The distance to the coast is approximately four km.
