A lone eagle does not prevent new wind turbines in Øster Rendbæk

A golden eagle has come close to putting a stop to Dansk Vindenergi's project in Jammerbugt Municipality, which will replace 12 old wind turbines in Øster Rendbæk with 15 new wind turbines closer to Store Vildmose. But now the project seems to have the support of a majority in the Technical and Environmental Committee, writes Nordjyske.

The eagle had chicks in 2016, but is now alone. Many complaints about the project have been that the eagle lives close to the planned wind turbines. The municipality's own lawyer has also expressed concern about the installation of wind turbines 3.5 km from the eagle's nest, as it may not comply with the Wild Birds Directive.

According to Dansk Vindenergi's lawyer, the Danish Environmental Protection Agency's comments are based on the fact that there is a breeding pair of golden eagles in the area, which is not the case. The Technical and Environmental Committee has therefore agreed with this by recommending that the municipal council approve the project in exchange for removing one of the originally planned 16 turbines out of consideration for pond bats. The municipal council will vote on the matter on February 18.
