EIFO has issued a buyer credit guarantee of almost 180 million DKK, which will secure the financing of three Offshore Survey and Service Vessels (OSSV) for the wind turbine industry. The vessels are being completed at Esbjerg Shipyard A/S for the German company MPC OSE Offshore GmbH, and around 50 Danish SMEs are expected to contribute as subcontractors. This is stated by EIFO in a press release.
The guarantee covers 80 percent of a total loan of 224 million DKK, which is provided by a German banking consortium led by Ostfriesische Volksbank eG. According to EIFO, the guarantee was issued because there is a significant Danish economic interest in the project.
- The issuance of this buyer credit guarantee contributes to Danish exports and supports Danish jobs in the maritime industry and among Danish SMEs. It also promotes the transition to renewable energy by increasing the capacity of special vessels for the offshore wind industry, says Peter Boeskov, Chief Commercial Officer at EIFO Large Corporates, and continues:
- As these are low-emission vessels, the transaction also contributes to the much-needed CO2 reductions in the energy projects' supply chain. Finally, the installation and servicing of several offshore installations is strengthened, which improves energy independence and thus strengthens Danish and European resilience.
The steel-hulled OSSVs are built in Poland, while the outfitting takes place at the shipyard in Esbjerg. Esbjerg Shipyard is close to completing the first Offshore Survey and Service Vessel, and the next vessel is expected to arrive in Esbjerg for fitting out in the first quarter of this year. The agreement initially includes three vessels with the option to build up to six in total.
The project is being implemented by MPC OSE Offshore GmbH, which was established by the German companies MPC Capital GmbH and O.S. Energy GmbH. The vessels are designed for tasks throughout the entire life cycle of offshore wind farms – from installation and servicing to dismantling – and are being built in collaboration with Esbjerg Shipyard with a buyer credit guarantee from EIFO.
