Holstebro Municipality has been designated as the home of Denmark's first energy park. On March 13, Minister for Urban and Rural Areas Morten Dahlin officially designated the area at Idomlund as an energy park through an executive order. This is according to the Ministry of Urban Affairs, Land and Church Affairs.

- Holstebro Municipality has long been one of the leading municipalities when it comes to installing wind turbines and solar cells. I am pleased that with the designation of the energy park Energy Hub Holstebro at Idomlund as Denmark's first energy park, we have received a significant pat on the back for creating an important hub for green energy production and fossil-free fuels. The energy park is located at the transformer station, where the green electricity from the offshore wind in the North Sea and onshore renewable energy comes in. All of this helps to make our municipality an even more important piece in the green transition of Denmark and the rest of the world, says Mayor of Holstebro Municipality H. C. Østerby.

The new energy park will provide the opportunity to plan a PtX plant with associated industries. However, the energy park will not contain solar cells or wind turbines, although the term is often associated with these energy sources. PtX is a central part of the goal of reducing Denmark's CO2 emissions by 70 percent by 2030 and achieving climate neutrality by 2045.

- Holstebro Municipality has wanted the opportunity to develop PtX and associated industries. That is why I am pleased that we have been able to help them fulfill that wish. The energy parks are an important step in our green ambitions, which can also create security for the supply of energy. At the same time, the energy parks provide the opportunity for new business and development opportunities in rural areas, which can contribute to more jobs and more growth locally, says Minister for Urban and Rural Areas Morten Dahlin.

The Energy Park Act, which came into force on 1 July 2024, gives municipalities the opportunity to establish energy parks in defined areas on land. The municipalities themselves submit proposals for energy parks, which can only be designated if the municipal council supports the project. Holstebro's energy park in Idomlund is the first in a series of municipally requested energy parks.

- The green transition is important for Denmark's competitiveness, for security and for the climate. It is therefore important that municipalities that want to and have local support to expand green energy are allowed to do so. Holstebro Municipality is one of those that is taking on a major green responsibility, and will now host an energy park with a focus on PtX development. It is green action that works, says Minister for Climate, Energy and Utilities Lars Aagaard.
