Ecosolar's plans to build a 50-hectare solar park at Bellinge in southern Odense have now been scrapped. The plant, which would be able to power enough for 11,000 households, could be a good step towards Odense Municipality's goal of becoming climate neutral by 2030. Despite this, a unanimous City and Culture Committee in Odense Municipality has chosen to reject the project, which was otherwise sent for consultation with a view to final political adoption by the city council. This is reported by Fyens Stiftstidende.
The project had been met with great opposition from the neighbors, and during the consultation period the municipality received 94 responses – all critical. The concerns ranged from the ruined view and consequences for wildlife to the startling possibility that there could be unexploded bombs in the ground from World War II. But it was the consideration for the neighbors that was decisive.
- Many concerns are repeated in the consultation responses. Among other things, this thing about the bombs – and one could probably find out if they are there. But what has been important to me is the relationship with the neighbors. Nobody was interested in this project. And it's just not good to start with a neighbor you don't like, says Søren Windell, city and cultural councilor in Odense Municipality.
