After a long-term dialogue between Tønder Municipality and the Ministry of Defence, it has been possible to ensure that nine out of 11 planned renewable energy projects in the municipality can continue their planning process. The other two projects must either be adapted or abandoned as a result of the adjusted flight corridors for fighter jets from Skrydstrup Air Base to Rømø. Tønder Municipality writes this in a press release.

- We have had a constructive dialogue across several ministries, and we are very satisfied that we can now continue working with the vast majority of our renewable energy projects. Wind energy plays a central role in the municipality's development, and we are pleased that together we have found a solution that both accommodates defence interests and the green transition, says Mayor of Tønder Municipality Jørgen Popp Petersen.

The case arises from an issue regarding the Defence's flight corridors, which previously blocked several wind turbine projects in the northern half of Tønder Municipality. These corridors are necessary to ensure the training and safety of fighter jets, but at the same time limited the possibilities for setting up wind turbines.

- Of course, we would have liked to see all projects implemented, but we also recognize the Armed Forces' need for operational training opportunities. The solution we have achieved is far better than the starting point, where only one project could be realized. It is very positive that the good cooperation between the ministries and the municipalities has borne fruit, says Jørgen Popp Petersen.

With this decision, one of the major barriers to the green transition has been removed, and Tønder Municipality will continue its work to ensure greater production of renewable energy in the coming years.
