The Danish Electricity Regulatory Authority temporarily takes note of new tariff guidelines for small electricity producers.

An industry guideline from Green Power Denmark, which determines payment for households and small businesses that both produce and consume electricity, can now be temporarily applied.

The Danish Electricity Supply Authority has decided to temporarily take note of industry guidance from Green Power Denmark until 31 December 2027.

The guidance describes a new method for pricing smaller customers - typically households, companies or small plants - who both consume and produce electricity.

According to Green Power Denmark, the purpose of the guidance is to introduce a contribution for self-producers that reflects the costs associated with ensuring that capacity in the electricity grid is always available when the self-producers' production is not sufficient.

The new statements abolish the previous availability tariff and availability payment. Instead, a fixed self-producer contribution is introduced, graduated according to the installed production capacity. Grid companies that follow the guidance can have their tariff methods approved through a simplified process.

"This means that grid companies that choose to set up their tariff methods in accordance with the industry guidance can have their methods approved through a simplified process," the authority writes.

Forward-looking analysis should strengthen the basis for decision-making

The Danish Electricity Supply Authority assesses that the guidance overall meets the requirements of the Danish Electricity Supply Act and the EU Electricity Market Regulation, but at the same time points out uncertainty regarding the self-producer contribution.

There is particular doubt as to whether the calculation method reflects the actual costs that customers impose on the grid.

The Danish Electricity Supply Authority therefore advises Green Power Denmark to prepare an analysis of the assumptions underlying the contribution. The analysis will form the basis for a future industry guideline that can ensure a more robust and transparent tariff after 2027.

"The aim is to create a more robust and transparent basis for future tariff and thus also ensure that the industry guideline can be taken into account for a longer period," it says.
