Lolland is one of the municipalities in Denmark that produces the most renewable energy – eight times more electricity than is used locally on the island. The production mainly comes from the offshore wind farms around Lolland, but an increasing share of the energy also comes from the turbines on land and the many solar parks on the island.
Therefore, since 2017, the initiative "Clean Energy Lolland" has been working to develop the island into a powerhouse for green energy. One of the goals of the Clean Energy Lolland collaboration is that a larger share of the energy should be utilized locally and thereby create the foundation for more local jobs. The developer European Energy is now joining the effort in connection with the collaboration being extended until 2030, the municipality said in a statement.
- I am pleased to continue the partnership with a strategic aim towards 2030 and to welcome European Energy to the partnership. Lolland can offer the framework that many green companies are looking for, namely plenty of renewable energy and political goodwill to think in coherent and circular solutions, says Holger Schou Rasmussen, mayor of Lolland Municipality.

European Energy is already behind several solar cell and wind farms on Lolland and also has plans to establish PtX production at Nakskov Harbour. It is therefore natural to join the Clean Energy Lolland partnership and contribute to a joint strategic effort to make Lolland Denmark's leading energy island on land, says the company.
- On Lolland there are the right ingredients in the form of renewable energy and green resources such as biogas and biogenic CO2. We therefore see great potential in the expansion of Power-to-X solutions on Lolland, where there is an opportunity to make intelligent sector coupling and establish the necessary value chains that can make the projects successful, says Emil Vikjær-Andresen, who is Executive Vice President and Head of Power-to-X at European Energy.
In addition to Lolland Municipality and European Energy, the green partner organization, Gate 21, and the energy and fiber network group Andel are also participating in Ren Energi Lolland.
