Carlsberg enters into a power purchase agreement with Better Energy

Bettere Energy and Carlsberg have agreed on a power purchase agreement, which means that the brewery will purchase 29 GWh per year of new green and subsidy-free electricity. The power purchase agreement is also the main reason for Better Energy to build a new large solar park.

Carlsberg's beer will soon be a little "greener" as the brewing giant has entered into a ten-year Power Purchase Agreement with Better Energy to purchase 29 GWh per year.

The agreement ensures the construction of new green electricity production in the form of a solar park of more than 70 hectares, which is expected to be in operation by the end of 2024. The solar park will supply Carlsberg's brewery in Fredericia with energy, Better Energy said in a press release.

- Carlsberg has extensive production in Denmark, and it is obvious that it is run on locally produced, new green electricity. It is both imperative and strong when great ambitions for a green transition are followed up by concrete actions. Carlsberg has made an active choice to purchase new green electricity and has thereby directly accelerated the green transition in Denmark and Europe, says Rasmus Lildholdt Kjær, CEO of Better Energy.

For Carlsberg, the agreement represents an important milestone in the company's sustainability program.

- The new power purchase agreement helps support our new sustainability program, Together Towards ZERO and Beyond, where we have expanded our already ambitious goals and added new ones. In addition, we are pleased to contribute to the transition to green electricity in Denmark by adding more green electricity to the Danish electricity grid,” says Peter Haahr Nielsen.
