India's Hygenco Green Energies has entered into a partnership with Danish company Topsoe, which will provide technology for Hygenco's upcoming green ammonia plant in Gopalpur, Odisha, India.

Hygenco plans to establish a large-scale green ammonia plant in Gopalpur Industrial Park, which is expected to be operational by 2027. The plant will be one of the first of its kind in the region. Earlier in 2024, Hygenco commissioned India's first commercial green hydrogen plant.

- The world is looking for innovative solutions to pressing environmental and energy challenges, and Hygenco is making great strides in promoting energy transition and decarbonization. We are excited to be able to use Topsoe's groundbreaking technology to effectively scale up the production of green ammonia, says Amit Bansal, co-founder and CEO of Hygenco in a press release.

Hygenco recently entered into an agreement with REC, an Indian state-owned company, for debt financing of USD 280 million for the development of the project.

As a technology partner, Topsoe will provide their advanced green ammonia technology, ensuring flexible and efficient operating conditions with optimized performance.

- We look forward to working with Hygenco on this impressive project. Green ammonia plays a key role in reducing greenhouse gas emissions from energy-intensive industries and long-distance transportation. There is a global need to scale up decarbonization and Hygenco’s project can significantly contribute to this effort, says Elena Scaltritti, Chief Commercial Officer at Topsoe.

Headquartered in Gurgaon, India, Hygenco develops large-scale green hydrogen and ammonia plants. Hygenco plans to invest USD 2.5 billion over the next three years in new green hydrogen projects in India.
