On 1 November, 50-year-old Jakob Møller Nielsen was appointed as the new director of the Danish Environmental Protection Agency. He comes from a position as head of department in the Ministry for the Green Tripartite and replaces Lars Hindkjær, who has chosen to retire after 16 years in the position, the Ministry of the Environment informs.
He previously served as head of department at the Danish Nature Agency for four years and as deputy director of the Technical and Environmental Administration in the Municipality of Copenhagen for two years. He has since served as head of department at the Ministry of the Environment, where he had executive responsibility for, among other things, regulation of drinking water, climate adaptation, waste sorting, chemicals and environmental assessments of major construction projects.
He was also responsible for handling the landslide at Randers, which required a massive effort by the authorities to protect the environment, nature and local communities. He was also one of the central forces behind the green tripartite, an area he has continued to work with as head of department in the Ministry for the Green Tripartite.
