The German energy group Uniper is withdrawing completely from its hydrogen activities in Denmark. The decision means that several planned projects will not come to fruition, including a PtX plant in Esbjerg, which was to have been developed in partnership with Danish Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP). This is reported by Klimamonitor.
It was a project on an absolutely large scale. The plans for the PtX plant in Esbjerg included a total investment of more than 14 billion kroner, which would have made it one of the largest single green industrial projects in Denmark.
- As part of our annual strategy review, Uniper has decided to focus its development of hydrogen projects on its core markets: Germany, the Netherlands, the UK and Sweden. As a consequence, we have suspended our hydrogen-related activities in Denmark, Uniper writes in a written response to Ingeniøren.
CIP has informed Ingeniøren that the collaboration with Uniper actually ended in the spring, but the Danish asset manager does not wish to comment at this time on who might take over Uniper's role in the project.
