Production is 120-140,000 tons of green hydrogen annually and 100-150 local jobs in Esbjerg have moved one step closer. This comes after the Danish Environmental Protection Agency approved Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners' project Høst PtX Esbjerg, which has a planned capacity of one GW.

- We are very pleased to have received the Environmental Approval, which makes it possible for us to continue the development of our plant here in Esbjerg with an electrolysis capacity of 1 GW, which can be used to produce green hydrogen. The approval is not only a seal of approval for our thorough work in relation to handling environmental and safety-related issues, but also an indirect indication that we in Denmark want to contribute to the transformation of sectors that cannot be electrified. It is an important signal in relation to the future of large-scale PtX projects in Denmark, says project director David Dupont-Mouritzen in a press release.

The environmental approval is an important step on the way, but for the project to be realized, the next important step is the further development of a Danish hydrogen infrastructure, which was recently postponed in the area from 2028 to 2031. The pipeline is crucial for exporting the green hydrogen to the European market, especially Germany.

Approval not only brings joy to Høst PtX Esbjerg, the mayor's office is also pleased that the project is moving forward.

- The environmental approval for Høst marks an important milestone not only for the project, but also Esbjerg and of course the PtX industry, which can potentially drive both growth in our region and the green transition forward. The ambitions are high for Høst PtX Esbjerg, and the project shows how players like CIP are investing massively in future solutions. Now we only need one piece: A quick establishment of the necessary hydrogen infrastructure. It is crucial – not just for Høst, but for Esbjerg, Denmark and our common green future.

Høst PtX Esbjerg already has many agreements in place for the project. Previously, the land for the plant and access to green electricity have been secured with a grid connection agreement with Energinet, as well as water supplies from the nearby wastewater plant under DIN Forsyning.
