Energinet and Gasunie Deutschland have entered into a framework agreement to develop hydrogen infrastructure between Denmark and Germany. The agreement will link the two countries' projects and enable the transport of green hydrogen across the border. Energinet announced this in a press release.

The collaboration includes an interconnection of Energinet's Danish Hydrogen Backbone 1 – also known as the 7-digit – and Gasunie Deutschland's Hyperlink 3 with an ambition of a capacity of 3–4 GW.

- This agreement underlines our strong commitment to making cross-border hydrogen infrastructure a reality. By working closely with Gasunie Deutschland, we are laying the foundation for being able to transport green hydrogen from Denmark to Germany and further into Europe – for the benefit of both the climate and energy security. says Lone Edelbo, CEO of Energinet Brint.

The progress of the project depends on demand. Energinet opened for sale of transport capacity on 30 January 2026, while in Germany reservation agreements will open on 19 March 2026. At least 0.5 GW must be booked before a final investment decision can be made.

-The agreement with Energinet marks the next important step in the joint work to contribute to the European hydrogen infrastructure. Imports from Denmark will play a crucial role in meeting the expected demand for green hydrogen, especially for energy-intensive industries in Germany and Europe. This strong commitment to our continued collaboration constitutes both an important foundation for the further development of our Hyperlink project in Northern Germany and a strong signal to the market – not least in light of the coordinated capacity reservation process that the German hydrogen network operators will initiate on March 19, 2026, says Britta van Boven, CEO of Gasunie Deutschland.

The parties expect to be able to commission the infrastructure by the end of 2030, if the necessary approvals and investments are in place.
