During the Danish royal couple's state visit to Australia, Danish and Australian companies are constantly putting pen to paper and signing a multitude of cooperation agreements and declarations of intent.

On Wednesday morning alone, eight agreements will be signed between Danish companies and Australian partners. The business conference "Partnering for a Green, Secure and Sustainable Tomorrow" - in Danish partnership for a green, secure and sustainable future - forms the framework for the many signatures.

On Wednesday, King Frederik opened the conference, which is taking place in the Australian city of Melbourne.  King Frederik generally believes that Danish companies have a lot to offer.

- There is an enormous demand from Australia right now for the things that we are really good at and have spent decades refining. It is coming to fruition right now, says King Frederik.

One of Wednesday's eight agreements has been signed by the Danish company European Energy. The energy company opened a solar park in Lancaster, about 100 kilometers north of Melbourne, on Monday.

The just-signed agreement, which is valid for a period of 30 years, has been entered into with the indigenous people who traditionally own the area where the new solar park and future energy projects will be located.

- It is a framework agreement where we promise each other to cooperate on each individual project with a focus on certain themes, says Thorvald Spanggaard, head of market and project development at European Energy.

According to Spanggaard, this applies to themes such as education, employment and environmental initiatives, among others.

Green focus

Australia has set a statutory target to be climate neutral by 2050. 44 of the 53 Danish companies participating in the royal couple's state visit work with renewable energy and green construction.

And the Australian companies want to expand their cooperation with Danish companies on the green transition, says Troels Ranis, deputy director of the Confederation of Danish Industries.

- They are very ambitious. They want the cooperation, learn from the partnership with Danish companies and also want to make use of Danish solutions, he says.

Danish companies export goods worth more than 20 billion kroner per year to Australia. Over the next 25 years, the Australian economy is estimated to grow by around 2.7 percent per year. That's higher than in Europe, the United States and China.

The Danish royal couple began a six-day state visit to Australia on Saturday. So far, they have visited the rock formation Uluru, the capital Canberra and the metropolis Melbourne. On Thursday, the couple will conclude their visit on the island of Tasmania, where the Queen was born and raised.
