The government wants to save DKK 100 million in the Danish Energy Agency – every seventh employee is facing dismissal

The Danish Energy Agency is facing extensive savings. This is evident from the government's budget proposal for 2026, where both appropriations and the number of full-time equivalents are proposed to be significantly reduced. This is reported by EnergiWatch.

"The Danish Energy Agency can confirm that there is a situation where the financial framework from 2025 to 2026 will be reduced by around 100 million." says a written response from the Danish Energy Agency to the media.

"This requires a significant adjustment of the organization and a reduction of approximately 110 positions. As a result of the announced savings, layoffs will be announced on September 4, 2025 of approximately 70 employees," it continues.

The savings are part of the government's state work program, which was launched in June. The goal is to free up 5.5 billion. DKK towards 2030 through, among other things, administrative savings and the restructuring of state supervision.

The Energy Agency is not the only institution under the Ministry of Climate, Energy and Utilities that is proposed to be hit by cuts. The department, DMI, Geus and the Climate Data Agency are also set to have both grants and man-years reduced. Overall, the budget bill proposes to reduce the ministry's total grant from 1,597 to 1,418 million. DKK, while the number of full-time equivalents must be reduced from 2,243 to 1,956.
