European Energy has expanded its Power-to-X plant in Måde near Esbjerg and put a new electrolyzer into operation. The upgrade increases the plant's total electrolysis capacity from 3.1 MW to 8.1 MW, which is intended to increase the production of green hydrogen and ensure more stable operating conditions. This is stated by European Energy in a press release.
The new electrolyzer was supplied by Plug Power, while the existing unit from Stiesdal has been replaced with an updated version. The first hydrogen from the expanded plant was produced on December 10, 2025 during a test run with 10 percent capacity and 40 bar pressure. According to the company, this marks the transition from the installation phase to active operation and underlines the progress of European Energy's Power-to-X projects in Denmark.
The expansion is also intended to bring the plant in line with current technical standards and prepare it for increased production. European Energy has also achieved ISO 9001 certification as a gas distributor in Denmark and is working to obtain RNFBO certification under ISCC.
- The expansion of the electrolysis capacity in Måde is an important step in the development of our work with Power-to-X. The new unit makes it possible to test the system's performance under operational conditions and supports our goal of developing commercially viable hydrogen production based on updated technical standards, says Lars Dyrholm, Director and Head of PtX Asset Management & Operations at European Energy.
European Energy expects to deliver around 550 tonnes of green hydrogen in 2026.
