In Denmark, tripartite agreements between, for example, the government and the social partners have delivered results that benefit Danish society.

Now Denmark's EU Commissioner for Climate and Energy, Dan Jørgensen, wants to use the model at the European level. This is part of his plan to ensure affordable energy. The plan was presented on Wednesday in Brussels.

- In Denmark, we have been good at making tripartite agreements for decades, both in the labor market, but also in relation to the green transition, where we involve various stakeholders in society. This is the mindset that I would like us to now also develop at the European level, says Dan Jørgensen.

As part of the EU Commission's plan for cheaper energy, he has proposed a European "energy tripartite agreement". The agreement is intended to bring together energy producers, the energy-consuming industry, developers and the public sector. The goal is to ensure more green energy in the EU.

- The uncertainty and risk of green projects have become too great today. This delays the rollout of renewable energy and creates challenges for the industry. A tripartite agreement will reduce risks, project costs and ensure stable energy prices, the proposal states.

More people need to be at the table

In practice, however, more than three parties will need to be at the table. Dan Jørgensen expects that in addition to the EU Commission, there will also be EU countries, the European Investment Bank, energy producers and the energy-consuming industry.

- The Danish tripartite also involves more than three parties in practice, and that will also be the case here. It will vary from sector to sector as to who the players are and how many there are. But it is about bringing those who produce the energy together with those who will consume the energy and those who will facilitate it. That means the member states and the EU, says Dan Jørgensen.

He expects that the tripartite will be able to help remove barriers to investments and make them more future-proof.

- We hope to be able to transfer all the things we know from the Danish tripartite, says Dan Jørgensen.

He hopes that the negotiations will start "as soon as possible".

- I hope that within the next few years we will see the first really large projects. Projects that might not see the light of day if it were not for this initiative, says Dan Jørgensen.
