DI praises responsible agreement on offshore wind: Green breakthrough

The agreement between the government and the Danish Parliament on 3 GW of offshore wind is supported by the Confederation of Danish Industry, which sees the initiative as necessary for both the climate and security of supply.

The Confederation of Danish Industry supports the political agreement on 3 GW of offshore wind that the parties behind the government have reached. According to DI, the agreement is crucial for both the green transition and Europe's energy supply. The organization says this in a press release issued in response to Monday's political agreement.

- The government and the parties to the agreement have been quick to pull the strings, listen to the market and secure the necessary financial framework. This is crucial at a time when the climate crisis requires rapid and targeted action, says Morten Høyer, political director of DI.

DI points out that rising costs for the construction and operation of offshore wind farms mean that government support is necessary. However, the organization also believes that expansion with green electricity is indispensable if Denmark is to continue to contribute to the transition away from fossil energy.

The new agreement includes a tender for 3 GW of offshore wind and is expected to be followed up in 2026, when politicians will meet again to discuss further measures for electrification in Denmark. DI believes that the tender will increase interest in offshore wind projects and act as a driving force in the transition to renewable energy.

- The tender for 3 GW in the short term is the right thing to do, and it will be a driving force in getting Denmark away from fossil energy and towards green electricity. I both believe and hope that today's agreement will turn the tide, and that there will be significantly greater interest in bidding for the three offshore wind farms, says Morten Høyer.
