A large PtX plant at Kassø, which will be the world's largest factory for e-methanol to date, which will be operational before the New Year and the employment of approximately 70 employees with a focus on developing e-methanol for the past three years. These are the main features of European Energy's major bet on the competitiveness of green methanol in recent years.
- Our e-methanol initiative is to convert electricity from wind and solar energy as well as biogenic CO2 captured from biogas plants into methanol that can be used, for example, to power a container ship or produce plastic, explains Knud Erik Andersen, CEO of European Energy, in the podcast 'Den Grønne Sofa', produced by the consultancy company Niras.
Today, green methanol is significantly more expensive than black, so it requires an extra expense for customers who want to use green methanol. However, Knud Erik Andersen expects that situation to change within the foreseeable future.
- We believe that green methanol has a future and can become competitive with fossil-based methanol within the foreseeable future. We have a plan and expect to take the FID (Final Investment Decision, ed.) for our next methanol factory during 2025. It will be the next generation that will reduce the additional price for green methanol further, says Knud Erik Andersen.
