The Danish energy company European Energy will start production of sustainable aviation fuel in Denmark. European Energy has signed an agreement with Swiss Metafuels to build a production plant in Denmark at Padborg near the Danish-German border.
The plant will be next door to a so-called Power-to-X plant, which is also planned at the same location. It is expected that 12,000 liters of aviation fuel will be produced daily at the plant.
- Renewable energy can reduce the climate footprint of aviation fuels, and this is an important part of the green transition, and here e-methanol, through conversion to green aviation fuel, can play a major role in decarbonization, says Emil Vikjær-Andresen, head of Power-to-X at European Energy.
European Energy already owns part of a large solar park at Kassø, which produces solar energy that can be used in the production of methanol.
Methanol - in Danish wood alcohol - is a chemical compound and a type of alcohol that is very useful and can, among other things, be used as fuel or in the production of other chemicals.
Methanol has traditionally been extracted from fossil natural gas, but can also be produced climate-neutrally using biogas and green energy.
