AABENRAA: Aabenraa Municipality will soon be home to one of the world's largest Power-to-X plants in operation when European Energy's plant in Kassø is ready later this year.
The city council is also focused on creating good conditions for PtX production. Therefore, at a meeting on Tuesday, the council unanimously decided to invest start-up capital in a new subsidiary of the municipally owned utility company Arwos, which will investigate the possibilities of using treated wastewater, also known as technical water, in the production of, among other things, green fuels at PtX plants. The municipality states this in a statement.
- Sustainability is about finding new solutions, and it therefore makes good sense to investigate whether Arwos can produce and supply treated wastewater for Power-to-X production, where a lot of water is required to produce the green fuels of the future. In this way, we can also protect our groundwater resources, says Mayor Jan Riber Jakobsen (K).
With the decision, the city council has requested the municipally owned utility company Arwos to establish a subsidiary. Arwos is ready to take up the gauntlet.
- We have received the request, and we are very much looking forward to working further with the project in Arwos. It is now up to the board of directors to make the formal decision to establish a subsidiary, which has the potential to become an important new business area for Arwos, says chairman of the board Kjeld Hansen.
The request to the utility company is not the only thing that Aabenraa Municipality has done to promote PtX in the municipality. Thus, on August 1, the municipality created a new position as Head of PtX Development, where the task is to identify and pursue the opportunities that PtX facilities provide for attracting more companies, education, etc.
