2026 could be a year when several years of preparations and political initiatives really pay off for Danish hydrogen and PtX. According to the industry organization Brintbranchen, major investment decisions, development of hydrogen infrastructure and increased focus on offtake are central to the development of the sector. This is stated by the Hydrogen Industry in a press release, which the industry organization itself calls a "New Year's statement".
The Hydrogen Industry points, among other things, to the results of the European Hydrogen Bank's third auction, which is expected in the first half of 2026. Here, Germany has allocated almost 10 billion DKK for hydrogen projects that can supply hydrogen to German customers, including projects related to the upcoming Danish hydrogen pipeline.
- In the first half of the year, we will see the results of the European Hydrogen Bank's third auction, where Germany has allocated almost 10 billion DKK for Danish hydrogen projects that can supply hydrogen to German customers via the upcoming Danish hydrogen pipeline. It should be a game changer, and we strongly hope that it will lead to a number of Danish hydrogen projects being able to make the final investment decision, so that we can begin to realize the potential for large-scale hydrogen production in Denmark, says Tejs Laustsen Jensen, CEO of Brintbranchen.
The hydrogen industry also believes that increased offtake is a prerequisite for large-scale hydrogen production to become a reality. The organization points to the production of green, liquid fuels as an obvious area of application and emphasizes the importance of political support to strengthen Danish and European self-sufficiency and strategic robustness.
- We need to strengthen our strategic resilience, our degree of self-sufficiency and our ability to produce liquid fuels in Denmark and Europe. It is about our common security and the industry's ability to deliver. But it requires political support, and it is a task that we will start with from the start of the new year, says Tejs Laustsen Jensen.
