Both of Vattenfall's new wind farms in the North Sea: North Sea South and North will soon be fully operational. But the full commissioning will be the test phase of a new radar-controlled lighting system, which is intended to minimize visual nuisance from lights at coastal offshore turbines, Vattenfall said in a statement.
The new radar system will ensure that the warning lights on the turbines in North Sea South and North will only be turned on at night if an aircraft approaches, which has not been seen before. At the moment and until the authorities' final approval after a test period, the anti-aircraft lights on the turbines will be on all the time – white during the day and red at night.
- The test period for the new radar-controlled lights on the two Vesterhavs parks will begin shortly, and we must of course be absolutely sure that the lights work as they should before they can be activated, says Mathilde Damsgaard, Project Director for Vesterhavs Syd and Nord at Vattenfall.
Total capacity for the new Vesterhavs parks is 344 MW with 176 MW on Vesterhavs Nord and 168 MW on Vesterhavs Syd.
