Esbjerg: Construction work is underway, because the state-of-the-art recycling machine from the German company Eggersmann Recycling Technology will arrive on April 1, 2023. But it is not until January 1, 2024, that Resource Denmark will open the Danish center for plastic waste sorting in Esbjerg. A customer group will benefit particularly from the new facility.
- We will have the municipalities as customers, and they will pay what we call a gate fee, explains Norwegian Erik Rynning, chairman of the board of Resource Denmark.
At that time, there will also be important data to collect for the municipalities.
- We will collect data from our scanners. Therefore, we will be able to give each municipality feedback on how good their citizens are at sorting their waste with a data analysis. We will have a lot of statistics and data, says Erik Rynning.
The waste sorting facility will be able to receive 160,000 tons of plastic waste per year. In the beginning, Resource Denmark is betting that plastic waste will be imported from abroad to cover the capacity.
- Maybe we will import in the beginning. Officially, there are 60,000 tons of plastic waste in Denmark per year, but that figure is uncertain. We know for sure that 400,000 are produced per year, says Erik Rynning, who feels convinced that there is also plenty in Denmark.
