A ship is currently conducting geophysical surveys in Little Belt South as part of preparations for the construction of a future offshore wind farm. The surveys will map water depth, the physical conditions of the seabed, and identify large rocks and potentially unexploded ordnance. TotalEnergies writes in a press release.
– I am pleased that we are now literally also putting some ships into the sea in Little Belt South. The ships will carry out geophysical surveys that are crucial for the development of the offshore wind farm and our goal of being able to produce electricity in Lillebælt from 2029, says Zhanar Dreisig, asset manager at TotalEnergies.
The surveys, which use advanced 3D technology, are expected to last until the end of July 2025. The largest of the three ships involved will be visible from the coast during this period.
“Geophysical surveys give us insight into the structure of the seabed and ensure that we can plan the construction of wind turbine foundations and the establishment of submarine cables with the highest precision and minimal impact on the marine environment,” says Andreas Karhula Lauridsen, vice president and head of offshore wind at European Energy.
The Lillebælt Syd offshore wind farm will have a capacity of 165 MW and will be able to supply electricity to more than 148,000 households when it is expected to be commissioned in 2029. The project contributes to Sønderborg Municipality's climate ambition ProjectZero.
