According to the German Minister of Industry, Robert Habeck from the Greens, German gas storage facilities are currently 56 percent full. This is reported by Flensborg Avis.

- This is above the average for the season, but not sufficient. We cannot enter the winter with a stock of 56 percent. The storage facilities must be completely filled. The situation is serious, but for the time being, security of supply is in place, believes Habeck.

He is once again appealing to citizens and companies to save energy, and not least gas. The Russian energy giant Gazprom has significantly reduced its deliveries via the important Nord Stream 1 pipeline across the Baltic Sea. Robert Habeck recognizes the pattern.

- This is how dictators and despots act. Now the Western allies and the Russian President, Vladimir Putin, are trying their hand at each other, Robert Habeck notes.

Want to lower minimum requirements

The head of the German Agency for Security of Supply, Klaus Müller, is proposing that the minimum requirements for heating homes be lowered in order to save as much gas as possible.

During the heating season, landlords must ensure that apartments are at least 20 to 22 degrees. Müller is proposing that this minimum requirement be temporarily reduced. The German Housing Minister, Klara Geywitz from the Social Democratic SPD, rejects the proposal.

- In my opinion, it is pointless to force citizens to freeze with a law, explains Geywitz.

She believes that room temperatures below 20 degrees can threaten health and cause damage to buildings. Robert Habeck does not rule out legislation as a consequence of the reduced gas supplies.

- If the amount of gas in the storage does not increase, we will have to take further measures. If necessary, this can also be done by law, the Minister of Industry and Trade told the state media house ARD.

According to his own statement, he has not dealt in detail with the issue of lowering the requirements for the minimum temperature in rental housing.
