
AARHUS: There is a high demand for space at the Port of Aarhus. Both new potential customers and existing customers are demanding space, writes the Port of Aarhus in a press release.
In 2018, this resulted in the leasing of 96,800 m2, and in 2019, the leasing was 96,158 m2. In comparison, the average rental in the previous 12 years has been approximately 35,000 m2 per year.
Account Manager Nicolai Krøyer is of course pleased with the high demand, but it also means that he is finding it increasingly difficult to satisfy current customers who want to expand their existing business at the port, and the challenge is correspondingly great when new customers want to establish themselves at the Port of Aarhus.
- The challenge of our success is that we currently only have very limited areas left for rental. And in our industry, you don't just move your activities. So if we end up turning away customers, we don't just get them back right away, says Nicolai Krøyer.
He recently drove past another port in Denmark, and here they had hung a large sign on the fence offering available areas. And he has no doubt why the port in question and the Port of Aarhus each have their own starting point.
The increasing demand at the Port of Aarhus is the result of a general trend, which means that many activities are concentrated in the large ports.
- We are currently seeing the beginning of a structural development among the ports in Denmark. Today we have many small ports and a few large ones, but the development will go towards fewer, but larger ports - exactly as has happened in agriculture, for example. At the Port of Aarhus, we want to future-proof the port and thus the job creation and added value that the Port of Aarhus helps to support. That is why we have applied for the opportunity to expand the port, says Nicolai Krøyer.
