In September last year, Ørsted sold its electricity distribution business, Radius, to the joint-stock energy and fiber network group SEAS-NVE. However, this now means that SEAS-NVE could gain too dominant a position on the gas market if the company takes over Ørsted's natural gas customers, the competition authorities assess.
Therefore, SEAS-NVE is selling 107,000 natural gas customers to the energy group OK. An additional 44,000 heating service customers from Ørsted are included in the deal, the group said in a press release.
- SEAS-NVE had looked forward to offering even more natural gas customers attractive solutions, but we naturally accept the authority's requirement. The gas market is in the middle of a maturation process, where competition is continuously becoming more and more intense. Therefore, we understand the authorities' assessment, says Managing Director of SEAS-NVE Jesper Hjulmand.
However, he is pleased that it will be OK that will take over the gas customers when the authorities are expected to approve the deal in the autumn.
- SEAS-NVE and OK have a lot in common. As cooperatives, we share many values in relation to responsibility, social development and focus on the consumer. This is embedded in our strategies. I am convinced that we have found a good new 'home' for Ørsted customers, says Jesper Hjulmand.
