Ørsted is now opening applications for its Greener Futures scholarships for the second time, targeting talented residents of Norfolk who want to study STEM subjects (science, technology, engineering and maths) at the University of East Anglia (UEA). Ørsted writes in a press release.

The scholarships are awarded to one bachelor's and one master's student who would otherwise not have the financial opportunity to start or continue their education.

Among the first recipients were Perfect Bakashaba, 34, from Norwich, who is studying global development at master's level, and Naomi Wilson Fediuk, 19, from Sheringham, who is studying environmental science as a bachelor.

– For me, the scholarship was the difference between being able to continue my studies at all or not, because I don't have much money. I have three children and bills to pay, so the scholarship has been really, really important and much needed,
says Perfect Bakashaba.

Naomi Wilson Fediuk adds:

– If I hadn’t got the scholarship, I probably would have still started university, but it would have been a lot harder. Right now I only have to work one or two days a week, but without the scholarship I would probably have had to work almost every day.

The scholarships are part of the Hornsea 3 Community Benefit Fund, which in total allocates 7 million kr. for projects that will benefit the local community in North Norfolk.

– The deadline for the next round of applications is 30 May 2025. We encourage as many students from Norfolk as possible who are passionate about environmental and sustainability issues to apply,
says Imran Nawaz, Senior Advisor at Ørsted.

The scholarships are valid for the academic year 2025-26.
