FREDERIKSHAVN: The police are reopening the investigation into a case about a secret audio file in connection with the scandal about Frederikshavn Port. This is reported by the local media TV2 Nord.
Specifically, the North Jutland Police have, on their own initiative, notified the State Attorney about an audio file that the police will now investigate again. In the audio file, a municipal employee can be heard instructing a person from Frederikshavn Port on how he can avoid handing over all documents to the public.
- I will be very happy if you do exactly as I have done, because then nothing will happen, nothing new will come out or anything, the municipal employee says, among other things, in the recording.
The case was otherwise closed by the police last year, just as the Danish National Appeals Board also closed the case. In the autumn of last year, a majority of the city council also refused to initiate an external investigation of the audio file.
This despite the fact that it is known that Frederikshavn Municipality has found 88 pages of emails that should have been handed over earlier in the case, just as it is known that far from all the people involved in the case have been questioned by the police, writes TV2 Nord. It is not known whether the police have found new information that would justify reopening the case.
The municipality took over
The entire case about Frederikshavn Port started in April last year, when the municipality suddenly took over ownership of the port. The reason was catastrophically poor finances in the port company, which was carrying a debt of 1.6 billion. DKK and an operation that was not well-organized enough to pay off the debt. Since then, it has emerged, among other things, that the top management in the municipality has known about the port's problematic finances for several years.
Birgit S. Hansen (S) left her post as mayor in the autumn of last year in favor of a job at KL. She has been accused of failing to tell the rest of the municipal council that the port's finances were in a bad state, but she has denied that her mayoral resignation was due to the port case.
She resigned as mayor on the same day that TV2 Nord first described the secret audio file, which the police will now resume the investigation of.
