In recent months, rising energy prices have contributed to making everyday life more expensive for Danes. This trend continued in December, when consumer prices rose by 3.1 percent compared to the same month the year before. This is according to a report from Statistics Denmark.
In particular, price increases for electricity and gasoline have pushed up consumer prices. The higher prices cost an average family several thousand kroner per year, estimates private economist at Arbejdernes Landsbank Brian Friis Helmer.
- Consumer prices are currently moving at a high rate. This means that it will be more expensive to be a Dane, and a completely ordinary family with children will have to spend DKK 14,100 more out of pocket to buy the same goods and services as a year ago, he says.
The economist notes that because it is mainly energy price increases that are driving up the price, the individual family's consumption composition has a major impact on how hard they are hit.
