FREDERIKSHAVN: As Doi.dk reported on Tuesday, the city council of Frederikshavn Municipality was to decide on a closed meeting on Wednesday whether the municipality would guarantee two new loans for a total of 35 million kroner, which were necessary to ensure the continued operation of Frederikshavn Port. The port already has a large debt of approximately 1.5 billion kroner. kr., but the city council approved the request anyway.
- It is necessary because we must do everything we can to save the Port of Frederikshavn from becoming a municipal port, says Mayor Birgit Stenbak Hansen (S) to TV2 Nord.
One of the new loans will be used to cover repairs to the port, as a result of a ship breaking loose during a storm in October last year. The second and largest new loan of 20 million kr. will be used to complete a new bunker terminal. The terminal has become a major burden for the port, as it has ended up costing approximately 480 million kr., which is more than double the original price. With the loan, the port's liquidity is now secured for a few months ahead. However, the port's director, Poul Knudsgaard, will not guarantee that this is the last time the port will borrow money.
